Sammy Carroll was honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) today as part of the College Division All-State Team. Carroll makes the team for the second time in as many seasons after also making the 2019 squad.
Carroll was one of the nation's top setters in 2021 as she finished the year averaging 10.31 assists per set and ranked 18th in Division III in assists per set and 3rd in total assists.. She was named All-Conference first team, Coast to Coast Conference tournament MVP, and garnered AVCA All-Region and All-American Honorable Mention honors. The junior totaled 1258 assists in 2021, the sixth-best single-season mark in program history. She posted a career-high 60 assists against Virginia Wesleyan and became the fifth Captain in the rally scoring era to reach the 60 assist mark in a match. The Gainesville, Virginia native was one of four Captains to play in all 122 sets for CNU.
Sammy Carroll helped Christopher Newport finish the season with a 22-10 overall record and captured the Coast-to-Coast conference title. The Captains advanced to their 14th straight NCAA tournament to close out the 2021 season.
