NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Just back from a trip to California for two victories, the Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad received two bits of good news on Monday. The Captains, 17-2 and riding a 14-game winning streak, moved up one spot to eighth place in the new national Top 25 poll released from D3hoops.com. CNU had been ranked ninth the last two weeks.

In addition, sophomore Trey Barber was chosen the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Barber led the Captains to three triumphs last week including a home win over the College of New Jersey on Monday and back-to-back victories at UC Santa Cruz on Friday and Saturday. He recorded double-doubles in all three games and has now registered five double-doubles this year. Barber averaged 16 points, 12.3 rebounds and shot 59.5 percent from the floor in the three wins. 

It's the second time this season Barber has received the weekly honor, and the fifth time a CNU player has earned the accolade. Sophomore Jahn Hines has been chosen Player of the Week twice this season, and fifth-year senior Jason Aigner has also been honored with the award.

The Captains will play their 20th game of the season and final game in January as they return to action on Wednesday night, traveling to Raleigh, N.C., to take on the Pacers of William Peace University. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
