Inside Lacrosse Rankings

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Continuing to earn acclaim from across the country, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team was slotted fifth in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Rankings, which were released by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Captains have now been listed in the top-five of both preseason polls that have been released this winter. Previously, Christopher Newport was ranked fourth by USA Lacrosse Magazine in their initial poll in December.
 
Christopher Newport has made an appearance in the top-20 in each of the last four Inside Lacrosse Preseason Polls. The Captains were previously slotted 11th in both 2019 and 2021, while the 2020 squad kicked off the season ranked 13th in the nation.
 
At the top of the 2022 rankings, RIT enters the year as the preseason favorites. Meanwhile, Salisbury, Tufts, and York (Pa.) sit just ahead of Christopher Newport in the top-five.
 
Along with Coast-to-Coast Conference rival Salisbury, the Captains are slated to battle a slew of other squads in the preseason poll. Seven other nationally-ranked teams dot the program's 2022 schedule, including home bouts against No. 11 Williams on March 30, No. 15 Colorado College on April 24, No. 19 Ursinus on March 9, and No. 20 Washington & Lee on March 23.
 
Christopher Newport will also travel to No. 17 Hampden-Sydney on February 26 and square off against No. 6 Lynchburg and No. 18 Gettysburg during the Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Maryland from March 18-19.
 
The Captains are coming off of a 2021 campaign that saw the team advance to the Final Four for the first time in program history. Along the way, Christopher Newport compiled a 13-6 record and climbed as high as third in the national rankings.
 
The 2022 season begins on February 12 with a showdown against Roanoke at Jennings Family Stadium.
