FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After piecing together a pair of historic efforts for Christopher Newport during the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday,
Nathanael Ferrante and
Madi Rawlings swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
The weekly awards were the first for either standout during their decorated careers.
Headlining the men's side of the meet, Ferrante starred in the Championship 8k. Torching the course at the Gloucester County DREAM Park, the third-year star clocked in at 25:01.9. That placed him fourth in a star-studded field, which included representatives from five nationally-ranked programs.
In addition to slotting him among the elite standouts at the meet on Saturday, Ferrante's clocking also placed him alongside the finest runners in school history. His time established a new PR and vaulted him to seventh on the program's all-time 8k performance list. It also marked the finest effort by a Captain since 2017.
Equally impressive during the meet, Rawlings also placed her name in the history books. Battling competitors from four nationally-ranked women's teams, the junior star finished 22nd overall after crossing the line in 22:53.5. That shaved 14 seconds off her previous PR set at last year's league meet.
Along with marking the top effort of her career, Rawlings' performance also moved her to 16th on the school's all-time 6k charts. Additionally, it marked the fastest clocking by any Captain in the history of the Border Battle, topping former legend
Kaitlyn Ardrey's time of 24:05.8 at last year's meet.
Both Rawlings and Ferrante are reigning All-Region performers and will look to continue their standout 2022 campaigns on October 29 during the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Salisbury.
