Alyssa Dozier was named the AVCA Region 6 Freshman of the Year as announced by AVCA Thursday.
Sammy Carroll and
Mackenzie Wright were each named to the AVCA All-Region 6 team on Thursday as well.
Dozier is the first AVCAÂ freshman of the year since Kara Elder in 2009 and the second in program history. She established herself as a critical part of Christopher Newport's attacking front, playing in 30 of the Captain's 31 regular season matches and totaling 182 kills and 70 blocks. Dozier was also tied for the team lead of 13 kills and led the team in blocks in their first round regional matchup on Thursday.
Carroll earned All-Region honors for the third straight season. She tallied 1054 during the 2022 regular season and added 95 kills, 36 service aces, 250 digs, and 40 blocks. She finished the regular season ranked seventh nationally in assists. Carroll added 39 assists in the Captains' first round win over SUNY Morrisville on Thursday.
Wright received her second straight all-region award after totaling 93 blocks in the regular season. She was dangerous on the offensive end as well, with 291 kills on a .304 hitting percentage. Wright tied for the team lead with 13 kills and added five blocks in the Captains win on Thursday.
The Captains face off with No. 24 Ithaca on Friday afternoon in the regional semifinal.
