CNU Women's Golf Ranked No. 22 in the Final Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll of the Fall Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Under the direction of first-year head coach Jonathan Howard, the Christopher Newport women's golf team will make the turn on the 2022-23 season ranked No. 22 in the nation according to the Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll. In the final poll of the Fall season, the Captains earned the highest ranking of the year after receiving votes in each of the first three rankings. 

Christopher Newport played in three tournaments this fall with weather cancelling the fourth scheduled event, the VSGA Women's Intercollegiate. The Captains opened the season with a top-ten effort at the NCAA Division III Championship Preview and then captured a fourth-place showing at the Williams Championship. Rounding out the fall porttion of the schedule, the women's golf team appeared at the Golfweek Fall Invitational and finished 12th out of 24 teams. 

As a team, Christopher Newport ranks 23rd in the country in the GolfStat ratings, led by top-75 individual performances by both Lauren Sims (#44) and Alex Delgado (#66) so far this season. Sims leads the way with a 76.3 stroke average while Delgado has a 77.9 average.

In just the sixth year of the program, the Captains have already established themselves as one of the top teams in the nation, having earned a national ranking in ten weeks since the start of the 2018-19 season.
