LIVE VIDEO // LIVE STATS

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University begins its home schedule Saturday night, hosting the University of Lynchburg Hornets. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center.

The Captains, ranked fourth in the nation, opened the new season, the 55th in CNU history, on the road Wednesday night with a 74-61 victory over tenth-ranked Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. Lynchburg enters Saturday's game with an 0-1 mark after falling at the University of Mary Washington in its season opener on Tuesday, 85-58.

Christopher Newport was sparked in its opener by junior All-American Jahn Hines, who posted a career-high 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting. The Captains trailed early, 9-0, before a 20-4 run put them ahead to stay. Johns Hopkins could get no closer than ten points through the second half. Junior Trey Barber registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and also blocked a game-high seven shots. Sophomore Ty Henderson also reached double figures for the Captains with ten points.

The game will be the 25th in the all-time series, with Lynchburg holding a 14-10 advantage. The Hornets and Captains split two matchups last season, with each team winning on its home court. Lynchburg downed CNU last November 21st, 83-66, one of just three losses suffered all season by John Krikorian's squad. The Captains gained revenge on December 12th with a 79-74 triumph at the Freeman Center.

Saturday's game will be joined in progress on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) following the conclusion of the CNU/Salisbury football game broadcast from Salisbury, Md.
