Alyssa Dozier was named the Coast-to-Coast Conference Rookie of the Year as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Sammy Carroll and
Mackenzie Wright were each named to the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference First-Team on Thursday while
Maddie Carter was named All-C2C second team.
Dozier is the first conference rookie of the year since
Sammy Carroll in 2019 and the eighth in program history. She immediately became a key part of Christopher Newport's front row, playing in 30 of the Captain's 31 matches and finishing the regular season with 182 kills and 70 blocks. Averaging 0.68 blocks per set, she currently leads all C2C freshmen in blocks per set. Dozier had multiple blocks in 17 matches, including eight blocks (five solo) in a win over Virginia Wesleyan.
Sammy Carroll received All-Conference honors for the third straight season. The senior ranks fourth all-time in assists for the Captains with 3542, including 1054 so far in 2022. She's contributed in all facets of the game this season, totaling 95 kills, 36 service aces, 250 digs, and 40 blocks. Her 1054 assists place her atop the C2C and 7th nationally.
Mackenzie Wright earned her second straight all-conference honors with the most blocks and the fourth-most kills in the conference. She ranks in the CNU all-time top ten with 75 career solo blocks and 348 career total blocks after she leading the C2C in 2022 with 93 total blocks. Wright has also amassed 291 kills with an efficient .304 hitting percentage this season.
Maddie Carter was named to her second straight all-conference team after ranking second on the team in kills with 246. She's totaled double-digit kills in 13 matches this season, including eight of the last ten matches. Carter set a season high of 21 kills in a win over Randolph-Macon.Â
The Captains will open up the C2C Tournament as the No. 3 seed on Friday at 1:30 ET against No. 6 Pratt Institute.
