INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championship Committee announced the 2022 tournament bracket on Monday afternoon, including Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Champion CNU women's soccer's first round opponent and location. The third-ranked Captains (16-0-2) will travel to Montclair State University to take on John Jay College, the CUNYAC Champions, in the opening round on Saturday, November 12.
The host Red Hawks, ranked No. 12 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25, will take on the University of Lynchburg in the other first-round matchup. Game times and other information will be released as it is made available.
Christopher Newport is making the team's sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the 14th all-time showing in the postseason event. The Captains are defending national champions and carry a 16-0-2 overall record into the first round. Their opponent, John Jay, earned the team's third straight conference title in the City University of New York Athletic Conference, and will be making the team's third appearance in just the 12th year of the program. The Bloodhounds are a program-record 12-2-2 overall after defeating CCNY in the conference title game.
In the other first round matchup, Montclair State earned hosting duties after finishing as NJAC runner-ups in a 2-1 decision against Rowan while Lynchburg secured the ODAC Championship with a PK shootout victory against Virginia Wesleyan following a 1-1 draw. Montclair State is 16-2-1 and Lynchburg enters the big dance at 11-3-7.
