FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After starring for Christopher Newport during the season opener on Saturday, Alyssa Roach and Katie Stevens swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Stevens was celebrated as the Field Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career after she was previously honored as a freshman on February 1 and March 21, 2022. Meanwhile, Roach has now collected five weekly plaudits during her tenure. Along with a pair of Field Athlete of the Week awards in 2022, she was also named the Track Athlete of the Week on January 20, 2020 and April 20, 2021.

Starring in the throws, Stevens kicked off her sophomore campaign with a pair of victories on Saturday at the Holiday Open. Headlining the meet, she established a new PR in the weight throw with a 14.08-meter toss. That not only moved her to third on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list, but it also bumped her to 26th on the national leaderboard this year.

Later, Stevens also captured the shot put with a 10.91-meter launch. That bested the runner-up by over a foot and marked the second-longest indoor effort of her career.

On the track, Roach torched the competition in the 60-hurdles. During the race, she threw down a time of 9.15, which stands as the eighth-fastest clocking in the NCAA this year. The senior speedster also finished the 200 in 27.49, which marked the second-best indoor effort of her career.

Along with her work on the track, Roach also eclipsed 1.48 meters in the high jump. That equaled the top clearance at the Holiday Open and moved her into the top-50 nationally.

Roach, Stevens, and the rest of the Captains will return to action next month when Christopher Newport takes part in the Keydet Invitational beginning on January 13 in Lexington, Virginia.
