FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the second consecutive week, Christopher Newport senior forward Anaya Simmons has been named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Simmons notched back-to-back double-doubles for the nationally-ranked Captains, helping lead the team to a 2-0 performance on the road. 

In road victories at Bridgewater (78-50) and at Greensboro (91-73), Simmons continued a run of now three straight double-doubles to become the first player since 2016 to accomplish that feat. She scored 18 points and added 12 rebounds against the Eagles before pouring in 17 points and hauling in a career-high 17 rebounds versus the Pride. 

Simmons continues to shoot a high percentage from the field, knocking down 55 percent from the field this week including a 6-for-8 effort at Greensboro. She is now hitting 59 percent (36-61) from the field this season while improving her career shooting percentage to .607 -- second among all active Division III players. 

She continued to contribute on both ends of the floor, snagging a season-high five steals against Bridgewater and picking off two more passes at Greensboro. With seven thefts this week, Simmons has taken over the team lead with 18 steals through the first eight games. The Williamsburg, Va. native also chipped in three assists and stayed out of foul trouble, committing just three personal fouls. 

This season, Simmons leads the squad in scoring and rebounding with 13.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. 

She and the rest of the nationally-ranked CNU Women's Basketball team will return to action on Sunday, December 11. The Captains will play host to N.C. Wesleyan University at 2:00 p.m. in the Freeman Center as part of a doubleheader with the men's program.
