Adrianna DeSantis and Katie Stevens Collect Coast-to-Coast Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Adrianna DeSantis and Katie Stevens swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors after starring for Christopher Newport during the Vince Brown Invitational on Sunday at the Freeman Center.

DeSantis was named the Track Athlete of the Week after posting the finest effort in the conference in a pair of sprints, while Stevens was celebrated as the top field athlete following a historic showcase in the weight throw. Overall, the weekly accolades marked the first for both standouts.

On the track, DeSantis kicked off her award-winning week by placing second overall - and first among Division III competitors - in the 400. During the race, she clocked in at 1:01.33. That ranks as the top mark in the conference this year by over two full seconds.

Later in the meet, DeSantis added a new indoor PR in the 200. The Mohegan Lake, New York native won her heat with a time of 26.86. That also marked the fastest time in the league this year, topping the previous standard by nearly four-tenths of a second.

In addition to her work in the 200 and 400, the six-time All-Conference honoree also ranks second in the league in the 60 this year after finishing in 8.18 during the Keydet Invitational two weeks ago.

While DeSantis was lighting up the track, Stevens was dominating in the throws. During Sunday's competition, the first-year phenom won the weight throw with a 13.21-meter launch. That eclipsed her previous PR by over three feet and marked the longest toss by anyone in the conference this year. It also vaulted her to eighth on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list.

Along with her showcase in the weight throw, Stevens also unloaded a 10.15-meter heave in the shot put, which marked her second-best performance of the season. Overall, the Cary, North Carolina native ranks third in the league in the shot after establishing a PR of 10.32 meters during the Holiday Open in December.

The Christopher Newport track & field teams will return to action on Friday when the Captains kick off the first day of the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
