NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport head coach Bill Broderick has been named the Week 14 WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Week for Division III as presented by Capital Elite Agency. Broderick helped lead the top-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team to a pair of wins against Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference competition, including a win over UC Santa Cruz, receiving votes in the national rankings. 

The Captains retained their spot atop the D3hoops.com and WBCA Top 25 rankings for the third consecutive week. With a pair of wins against UC Santa Cruz and Pratt Institute, CNU improved their overall record to 21-0 and extended the team's program-record and national-leading 38-game winning streak. 

With his selection, Broderick is now eligible to receive the WHoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Capital Elite Agency, which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2021-22 college basketball season. This is the third season that WHoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs.

CNU defeated the Banana Slugs, 74-70, and Pratt Institute, 90-30. The Captains won both games in the C2C Showcase Classic and maintained their unscathed overall record this season. Christopher Newport ranks second natinoally in scoring margin, beating teams by an average of 33.9 points per game, while featuring the fourth-ranked scoring offense and 42nd ranked scoring defense. Leaning on the defense, the Captains rank first in the nation in turnover margin and fifth overall in steals per game. 

The Captains will be back in action this Saturday for Senior Night as they host Salisbury University at 6:00 pm in the final regular season game of the season.
