Natalie Terwilliger was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday after an impressive Senior Night performance against Salisbury University. The Captains' senior forward scored 25 points and added a career-high 16 rebounds against the Sea Gulls to help Christopher Newport finish out a perfect 22-0 regular season with a 76-62 win.
Terwilliger is the first Captain to earn a spot on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week since the 2010-11 season when Chelsie Schweers garnered her sixth career recognition. She is the sixth different player to earn the certificate with 12 total selections in program history between them.
As part of an impressive overall performance, the Alexandria, Va. native knocked down 71.4% of her shots (10-14) and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She tied for the most rebounds by a Captain since the 2014-15 season and picked up her first double-double of the season. Terwilliger tacked on a blocked shot, her 41st of the season, and an assist as she finished out a well-rounded effort.
Taking on conference rival Salisbury, Terwilliger caught fire early and had a double-double in the first half with 11 points and 11 rebounds. After the break, she added 14 points and five more rebounds for her final totals. Most importantly, after the Sea Gulls had pulled within one, Terwilliger scored eight points in a 12-0 run for the Captains between the end of the third and start of the fourth quarter. Putting the team on her back, the Captains re-established a double-digit lead and pulled away for the win.
On Monday, she was named the conference player of the week and earlier in the day on Tuesday, Terwilliger was named a first team All-Conference player to cap an impressive week overall. She and the rest of the CNU women's basketball team will serve as the top seed in this weekend's Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The Captains will first take the court at Kaiser Permanente Arena in downtown Santa Cruz, California at Noon on Friday, February 25 in the semifinal round.
