NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University sophomore
Jahn Hines was honored on Tuesday, named first team All-Region by D3hoops.com. Hines, from Norfolk, was the Player of the Year this year in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference as well as the MVP of the Coast-To-Coast men's basketball tournament.
Hines, a product of Norview High School, led the Captains in scoring by averaging 15.3 points per game and also pulled down 6.9 rebounds per contest. The 6-3 sophomore helped lead the Captains to a 27-3 record and a trip to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.
Hines scored 20 points on Saturday at Marietta in the NCAA sectional final after posting 19 points on Friday in the Sweet 16 vs. Stockton. He recorded five double-doubles this year, and reached double figures in scoring in 25 of CNU's 30 games, including a run of 19 straight games with ten or more points.He posted a season-high 26 points in a win over Mary Washington at the Freeman Center on February 9th, and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds in a victory at Hampden-Sydney on December 14th.
Christopher Newport won 24 straight games before falling to Marietta on Saturday in Ohio.
