FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Daniel Ferrante and
Alyssa Roach swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors after the two standouts pieced together an impressive showing for the Christopher Newport track & field teams during the New Captains Classic over the weekend.
The weekly awards were the second of the year for both stars after Ferrante was previously celebrated on February 7 and Roach was honored on January 24. In her career, Roach has now earned four weekly awards dating back to 2020.
Lighting up the track in the 800, Ferrante won the race on Saturday afternoon with a time of 1:54.63. That cut over half a second of his previous PR and marked the fifth-fastest time in the South Region this year. It also pushed him to 36th on the national charts.
In addition to his award-winning run in the 800, Ferrante also ranks 10th in the region in the 1500 after throwing down a time of 3:58.86 at the Colonial Relays in March.
Starring in the heptathlon at the New Captains Classic, Roach led all Division III competitors in the combined event after compiling a score of 3,090. That total marked the highest in the South Region and moved her to 25th on the national charts.
Especially dominant in the 100-hurdles, Roach posted a time of 14.91 on Friday. That clocking moved her to first in the conference, third in the region, and 29th in the NCAA. During the heptathlon, she also won the 200 in 27.10 and posted the top effort in the long jump after landing a distance of 5.05 meters.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday when the Captains travel to Lynchburg for the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic.
