LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams will return to action this weekend when the Captains take part in the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic at Lynchburg's Dr. Jack M. Toms Track Complex.
The meet opens on Friday evening with several distance events beginning with the 1500 at 7:00 p.m. Saturday will feature a full slate of action with field disciplines starting at 8 a.m. and track events kicking off three hours later.

Entering the meet, seven Captains currently rank in the top-50 nationally in at least one event. Headlining the group,
Alyssa Roach is 26th in the heptathlon (3,090) and 30th in the 100-hurdles (14.91), while
Jack Armel is 14th in the decathlon (5,497) and 41st in the pole vault (4.45 meters).
In other field events,
CJ Reeders is 35th in the NCAA in the men's triple jump (13.67 meters). Meanwhile, Christopher Newport has continued to feature a talented collection of distance standouts. On the men's side,
John Vogel is 15th in the nation in the 3000-steeplechase (9:19.70), and
Daniel Ferrante is 36th in the 800 (1:54.63). For the women,
Kaitlyn Ardrey is 15th in the 10,000 (36:40.52), while
Logan Funk is 35th in the 5,000 (17:46.10).
Each of the nationally-ranked competitors is entered in at least one event during this week's meet. Overall, 58 Captains are currently scheduled to take part in the competition.
Among the standouts with the heaviest workloads this weekend, seven are presently entered in three events apiece.

Kenzie Hurley are slotted in two individual races and a relay on the women's side. Meanwhile,
Ethan Anderson,
Johnny Atienza,
Gage Elliott,
Gustavo Leitao, and
Nick Tolarchyk are looking forward to a busy weekend for the men.
After this week's meet wraps up on Saturday, Christopher Newport will return to action on April 23 with the Eastern Shore Challenge at Salisbury.
