WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- After seeing a pair of school records fall on the first day of the Colonial Relays, the Christopher Newport track & field teams continued orchestrating historic efforts on Saturday afternoon at William & Mary's Zable Stadium and Stimson Throwing Area.
Just a day after
Logan Funk and
Kaitlyn Ardrey broke a pair of distance records on the women's side,
Eric Speeney jumped to fifth in program history in the men's 10,000. During the race, the senior clocked in at 31:48.62. That marked the fifth-fastest time in school history and the finest effort by a Captain since 2017.
Diego Cobos also completed the 10,000 in 32:49.30, which moved him to 11th on the program's all-time charts.
Along with the distance standouts,
Jack Armel shined in the pole vault. The third-year star won the event and established a new PR after topping 4.45 meters. That effort also moved him to sixth on the school's all-time performance list.
Three other Captains also finished in the top-20 in their respective events during the prestigious competition on Saturday. For the women,
Alyssa Roach was 19th in the 100-hurdles (15.51), while
Mazie Clark finished 20th in the shot put (10.57 meters). Meanwhile,
CJ Reeders came in 11th in the men's triple jump after landing a 13.67-meter distance.
Christopher Newport will return to action on Friday with the start of the New Captains Classic at TowneBank Stadium.
