FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the third time this season,
Dylan Rice has been honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping the top-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team wrap up the regular season with an undefeated record.
During a pair of victories last week, Rice led the Captains with 13 points after posting nine goals and four assists. The fifth-year standout also had three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls while lifting Christopher Newport to a 16-0 record entering the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Previously, Rice was also celebrated as the Offensive Player of the Week on February 14 and March 28. In his career, he has now earned five total awards after also earning recognition on April 30, 2018 and May 3, 2021.
Rice kicked off his award-winning week with four goals during a 24-1 victory over Mary Washington on Saturday, which wrapped up Christopher Newport's first regular season league championship. Against the Eagles, he did all his damage in the first quarter after driving home the game's first strike in the fourth minute of action before adding three more tallies later in the period.
Less than 24 hours later, Rice returned to the field for another historic performance in a 26-3 triumph over Colorado College in the regular season finale on Sunday. Against the Tigers, he erupted for nine points, which equaled the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Flashing a well-balanced arsenal, he unloaded five goals and added four assists during the lopsided triumph.
During the non-conference showdown, he kicked off his afternoon with a goal in the first quarter. Later, after posting two assists early in the second stanza, he added back-to-back goals in the span of 14 seconds just before halftime. His 14-second blitz marked the sixth-shortest span between goals by a single player in program history.
After the break, Rice polished off his nine-point eruption with two goals and a pair of assists in the third period.
Aided by his work during the week, Rice established new single-season program records for goals (60) and points (90). His 30 assists also rank third all-time.
Rice and the rest of his teammates will return to action on May 7 when the Captains host the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship at Jennings Family Stadium. Christopher Newport will square off with the survivor of a semifinal matchup between Mary Washington and No. 3 Salisbury, which will take place on May 3.
