Christopher Newport Junior Alex Price Named Division III PING First Team All-American

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- At the conclusion of the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced the PING First Team All-America honorees, including Christopher Newport University junior Alex Price. Price is one of nine first team All-Americans recognized by the coaches' association on Friday.

Continuing to make history throughout his first three years, Price joins 1994 national champion Scott Scovil as the only players in Christopher Newport history to garner All-American honors three times in his career. He is also just the fifth Christopher Newport player in program history to garner first team All-America plaudits joining an elite group that includes Joe Monk (1991), Scovil (1994), Brian Jaeger (2013), and David Rabil (2017).

Price was named an honorable mention All-American in 2020 and picked up a second team All-American certificate in 2021. This season, the junior lefty set the program scoring average record for a single season by finishing with a 72.6 in 26 rounds of play. He now has a CNU record 72.4 career scoring average through 69.5 rounds in his first three years.

This year, he added to his illustrious career with five top-ten finishes in nine events including a win in the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate this Spring. He recorded 13 rounds at par or better this season including a record-shattering 54-hole tournament at Jekyll. He fired an 11-under 205 in that event with three straight sub-70 cards.

In the regular season, Price finished no worse than 16th in his eight events played with one win and three runner-up finishes. He helped lead CNU to rank No. 7 in the nation while ranking fourth individually in the final regular season GolfStat rankings of the season. The junior from Hillsboro, Va. carried Christopher Newport to an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III National Championships, where Price appeared for the second time in his career.

Price is the lone junior selected as a first team All-American in 2022. Joining Price on the first team were Henry Angier (Methodist), Andre Chi (Methodist), Austin Davis (Willamette), Nicholas Gianelos (Babson), Will Hocker (Webster), Cooper Hrabak (Methodist), William Knauth (Carnegie Mellon), and Jackson Klutznik (Emory).

The second-, third-, and honorable mention All-Americans will be announced in the next several weeks.
