CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Jack Armel and
Tyler Palmer registered historic efforts for the Christopher Newport track & field teams as the Captains wrapped up the regular season with a solid outing at the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday evening at the Sherie and Don Morrison Track.
In the pole vault, Armel established a new PR while topping 4.56 meters. That equaled the fifth-highest clearance in program history. Meanwhile, Palmer added over a foot to his personal-best in the shot put with a 14.26-meter launch. That stands ninth on the school's all-time performance list.
Along with the history-makers,
Adrianna DeSantis rolled to a victory in the women's 400 after crossing the line in 58.68. On the men's side,
Daniel Fox was the runner-up in the 100 after completing the finals in 11.03. He also added a 10.93 mark in the prelims.
Rounding out Thursday's stars,
CJ Reeders came in third in the men's triple jump with a 14.37-meter effort, while
Katie Stevens was ninth in the women's hammer after unloading a 38.77-meter throw.
Christopher Newport will now await word on possible bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will take place in Geneva, Ohio beginning on May 26. A final list of the meet participants will be published at NCAA.com by 8 p.m. on Friday.
