Kelsey Winters Secures 2nd-Team IWLCA All-American Honors

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- Adding another item to an ever-growing list of awards for the Christopher Newport legend, Kelsey Winters was celebrated as a second-team IWLCA All-American after earning the national accolade from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association for the second time in her career on Thursday afternoon.

With her second award, Winters joined Meaghan Galvin as the only two-time honorees in school history. The IWLCA honor also marked her second All-American plaudit of the year after she previously hauled in third-team honors from USA Lacrosse Magazine.

In addition to her national honors, Winters was also named a first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection earlier this month.

Orchestrating a record-breaking junior campaign, Winters set a new school standard with 66 assists. That total also ranked eighth in the entire NCAA in 2022. Additionally, the Harwood, Maryland native also chipped in with 95 total points, which marked the fifth-highest total in program lore.

Consistently effective, Winters collected at least one point in 18 of her appearances and had two or more on 15 occasions. On February 26, she established a new school record with 13 points against Moravian. Her 10 assists in that contest also tied the program standard. Meanwhile, her 12-point eruption at Virginia Wesleyan in the opener on February 18 marked the most by a Captain in a road tilt.

Continuing her early-season flurry, Winters also added 10 points against Kean on March 5 before coming back later in the year with 11 against Illinois Wesleyan on April 10. With her work during the season, she became the first Captain to register four double-digit point totals in a single campaign.

Equally impressive, Winters continued to step up against nationally-ranked competition throughout the year. She had four-point efforts at No. 4 Washington & Lee on March 19 and No. 2 Salisbury in the conference championship on May 7. Overall, she posted 14 total points in her five outings against top-15 foes during the season.

Honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week four times in 2022, Winters eventually led the league in points and assists, while her 13 free-position goals equaled the third-most by any player in the conference.

In her career, Winters already ranks second in program history with 136 assists. Her 207 points and 28 free-position goals also place her seventh on the all-time charts.
