The 29-team, 151-player field will take the course Tuesday with a forecasted high temperature of 89 degrees in the first round. The weather is expected to be an obstacle for all players this week with temperatures reaching the mid 90's and a very low chance of precipitation impacting the event. All four rounds will be played on the Bay Oaks Course with a Par 72 on a 5,866-yard layout.Â
Sims is the third player in the five-year history of CNU Women's Golf to qualify for the national championship. She is the eighth CNU student-athlete to qualify for the national championships as an individual player joining
Erica Whitehouse,
Shreya Ganta and five former men's Captains.Â
This season, Sims enjoyed record-breaking moments for the Captains and earned her trip to nationals with a career-best season. She broke the program's 54-hole tournament record for scoring while recording her first career round under par. She then added another round under par at the Historic Triangle Invitational and finished in the top five in that tournament. In six events this season, Sims has finished at par or better in a program record four rounds of play. Â
The CNU junior averaged 76.6 strokes per round this season and lowered her career average to 80.3, ranking third all-time at CNU.Â
Sims will tee off at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on the first hole as part of the second group of individual qualifiers. She will be playing with sophomore Emma Thorman (Illinois Wesleyan) and freshman Karen Alvarez (Texas-Dallas). The other three individual qualifiers - Emily Brubaker (Lynchburg), Sarah Hsu (Oglethorpe), and Lexi Onsrud (IWU) - will tee off at 9:20 a.m.Â
