Nationally-Ranked CNU Men's Golf Opens National Championship Play in Florida on Tuesday

Live Stats

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- One year after a record-setting performance at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's golf team will return four of the same golfers to the national stage again starting on Tuesday. The No. 7-ranked Captains will start the opening round of play at the Mission Inn Resort at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Christopher Newport will open the 72-round tournament on the El Campeon championship course Tuesday before taking on the Las Colinas track in Tuesday's second round. Following the second round, the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams will return to the El Campeon course for the third and fourth rounds to determine the team and individual national champions.

Live scoring will be available for fans unable to attend, with links found on the CNU Men's Golf Schedule at CNUsports.com or by clicking the link at the top of this page.

The Captains will attack El Campeon, a 6,748-yard Par 72 with Carnegie Mellon and Aurora University in the same group. They will be the second group of teams to tee off Tuesday morning behind the first set between 7:30-8:10 a.m. For the second straight year, Carrter Morris will take the first swing for the Captains, followed by rookie Jackson Gessaman, sophomore Aidan Baron, and then juniors Robb Kinder and Alex Price.

CNU earned a Pool C at-large berth into the championship field of 43 teams with a total of 221 total participants. The Captains are making the team's sixth NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Jamie Coleman and the 18th all-time showing by at least one CNU participant.

Despite being a relatively young starting lineup in this year's field, the Christopher Newport group features some of the best talent in the country. Junior Alex Price finished in the top-15 of last year's championship event and has continued to add to his unprecedented career as the Captains' all-time leading scorer. He ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with a 71.8 average through eight events in 2021-22 and earned a win at the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate earlier this spring with a record-shattering 205 (-11).

Robb Kinder finished the 2021 event as co-runner up with a 287 (+4). In contention for the individual medalist honors throughout the four round postseason championship, Kinder never shied away from the spotlight and backed up his stellar performance a year ago with a 73.1 average this season. Both Aidan Baron and Carrter Morris earned a trip to the NCAA Championships in their first season and helped guide the Captains to a record-breaking eighth-place finish as a team. The lone newcomer to the starting lineup is Gessaman, who finished his first year with a 77.2 average in 16 rounds of play this season.
