This will be the 15th consecutive NCAA appearance for the Captains, and the 19th all-time in the 38-year history of the program. Christopher Newport will carry a 14-game winning streak into the NCAA's. CNU won its first 23 games this year before losing the second game of a doubleheader at Averett University on March 27th, the lone defeat for the Captains this season.
The Captains are coming off two victories over Salisbury University to claim the title of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. CNU won Thursday over the Gulls by a 5-0 score, and then wrapped up the title Friday with a 10-4 triumph.
Friday's game with Wilson will be the first time the programs have met. Wilson College is located in Chambersburg, Pa., and the Phoenix are Champions of the Colonial States Athletics Conference (CSAC). Messiah is located in Grantham, Pa., and the Falcons are the winners of the MAC Commonwealth Conference. CNU is 4-5 all-time vs. Messiah. Hunter College is located in New York City and the Hawks won the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title. The Captains won the only meeting ever with the Hawks.
Christopher Newport was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament last year after dropping games to Emmanuel College and Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
Tickets will be available for $10 for each day of action, and will be available one hour before the start of the day's competition at Captains Park. CNU students with current ID will be admitted free.
