Dylan Rice and Max Wayne Haul in First-Team IMLCA All-American Honors

DURHAM, N.C. -- For the first time in program history, Christopher Newport was represented on the first-team IMLCA All-American squad as both Dylan Rice and Max Wayne hauled in top plaudits from the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Friday morning.

Christopher Newport was one of only three schools in the country to place multiple players on the first-team squad, joining RIT and Union.

The awards join an ever-growing list of accolades for the fifth-year phenoms. Wayne was previously named a first-team All-American by both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and USA Lacrosse Magazine. He was also celebrated as the USILA National Player and Defenseman of the Year.

Meanwhile, Rice was a first-team USILA All-American and a second-team selection by USA Lacrosse Magazine. He was also named the IMLCA Region 3 Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week.

A centerpiece on the team's defensive unit, Wayne suffocated the competition throughout the 2022 campaign. During the season, he ranked 10th in the NCAA with 55 caused turnovers. He was also one of only 14 players in the nation to register at least 50 takeaways and 50 ground balls after scooping up 51 rollers, which led all defensemen in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference.

Collecting at least one takeaway in all 20 games, Wayne caused six turnovers in victories over Grove City on March 2 and No. 19 Ursinus on March 9. He also finished the season with multiple takeaways in his final 11 appearances, including four during the second round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 14 Wesleyan on May 15.

One of the program's most reliable contributors, Wayne started 84 consecutive games dating back to his collegiate debut, which marked the longest "Iron Man" streak in school history. Making the most of his time on the field, the Ashburn, Virginia native finished his tenure ranked second all-time with 179 caused turnovers and fifth with 193 ground balls.

A lethal presence on the offensive side of the ball, Rice torched the back of the net with regularity in 2022. He eventually shattered the single-season program records with 72 goals and 105 points. Both of those totals also placed him among the top performers in the NCAA as he ranked eighth in the nation in goals and 11th in points.

Rewriting the record books, Rice set a new single-game program standard with eight goals against Roanoke on February 12. Additionally, his 10 points in that contest tied his own school record, which he also matched against Whittier on March 27. Overall, he had at least two points and a goal in each of his 20 appearances, including 15 hat-tricks.

In 82 career games, Rice walked away as the school's all-time leader with 339 points, 244 goals, and 25 man-up tallies. On the national charts, the Mechanicsville, Virginia native finished his tenure ranked 13th in NCAA history in goals and 21st in points. Meanwhile, his 95 assists are the second-most by any player in program history.

Aided by the efforts of Rice and Wayne, the 2022 Captains climbed to the top spot in the USILA National Coaches Poll, claimed the program's first Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight while compiling an 18-2 record.
