HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Alyssa Roach secured three All-State awards, including a pair of first-team plaudits, while Katie Stevens was named the Virginia Rookie Field Athlete of the Year as the Christopher Newport track & field teams were well-represented on the Outdoor All-State squad, which was announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors on Tuesday afternoon.

Headlining the group, Roach hauled in first-team accolades for her work in the hurdles and combined events. She also was a second-team selection in the jumps. Meanwhile, Stevens was a first-team pick in the throws to go along with her freshman award.

Rounding out the first-team honorees, Kaitlyn Ardrey garnered top plaudits in the distance events.

Four other Captains collected second-team All-State citations. On the track, Adrianna DeSantis was honored in the sprints, Logan Funk was recognized in the mid-distance events, and Madi Rawlings joined Ardrey as a decorated distance standout. Meanwhile, in field events, Mazie Clark was acknowledged for her performance in the throws.

Wrapping up a phenomenal debut campaign, Stevens was honored as the top freshman field athlete in the state after starring in the throws. During the Coast-to-Coast Conference Outdoor Championships, the first-year phenom claimed the league crown in the hammer throw with a 39.26-meter toss. She also garnered second-team All-League honors in the javelin after finishing second with a 22.52-meter launch.

Overall, Stevens ranked in the top-10 in the South Region in a pair of events after slotting eighth in the hammer (42.52 meters) and 10th in the discus (35.46 meters). Additionally, she stook in the top-50 in the shot put (11.00 meters) and javelin (22.52 meters).

Showcasing a well-rounded skill set, Roach starred throughout the spring. Capping off the year, she qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon and eventually placed 16th in the country. Meanwhile, her PR of 4,355 at Mount Olive in May ranked fourth on the program's all-time performance list.

Honored as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Roach also won league titles in the 100-hurdles, 400-hurdles, and long jump. Her top time of 14.41 in the 100-hurdles moved her to third in school history and ranked 23rd in the nation.

Orchestrating a record-setting senior campaign, Ardrey shattered a pair of program standards during the year. Her time of 36:40.52 in the 10,000 not only set a school record, but it also marked the fastest clocking in the South Region in 2022. Additionally, she won the league title in the 5,000 and broke the previous program mark in the event with a time of 17:33.22 at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic.

Walking away with a pair of league titles, Clark dominated the conference during her senior season. At the Coast-to-Coast Championships, she topped the field with an 11.57-meter toss in the shot put and a 32.47-meter heave in the discus. A two-time Field Athlete of the Week honoree, she set a PR in the shot with a 12.00-meter throw at the New Captains Classic, which also earned her All-Region accolades.

A dynamo in the sprints, DeSantis collected four All-League awards for her work in the spring. During the conference meet, she beat the competition in the 400 while placing second in the 200, 4x100-relay, and 4x400-relay. Equally impressive in the classroom, the Academic All-American was named the Coast-to-Coast Conference Indoor and Outdoor Women's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Making history in the 1500, Funk brought home the league championship in the event with a time of 4:42.81. That also earned her a spot on the All-Region squad and moved her to sixth in program history. An All-Conference selection in the 4x400-relay as well, she set a PR of 2:21.26 in the 800 at the New Captains Classic, which also placed her 10th on the school's all-time charts.

Excelling in the distance events, Rawlings earned a spot on the All-League squad in the 10,000. During the spring, she posted a personal-best in the event with a 39:41.99 clocking at the Colonial Relays, which marked the seventh-fastest time in school history. Meanwhile, she moved to ninth in program lore in the 5000 with a mark of 18:21.16 at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier.

Led by the All-State stars, Christopher Newport eventually concluded the spring by winning the team title at the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championships. During the meet, the squad posted a score of 235, which was the highest mark by any program in the league since 2013.
