FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- A pair of Christopher Newport veterans were named to the 2022 VaSID College Division All-State Men's Tennis Teams on Tuesday as senior Ryan Macy and junior Alec Strause each collected the honors. Macy and Strause paired for a first-team doubles certificate while Strause also earned second team plaudits in singles. 

Macy concludes his career a three-time All-State selection after earning first team honors in singles as a freshman in 2019 while posting back-to-back first team selections in doubles with Strause. The latter also earns his third All-State certificate after being picked first team in doubles last season to pair with this year's sweep in both categories. 

In the final ITA Division III Men's Tennis National Rankings, the CNU tandem was ranked No. 25, marking the first time since 2017-18 that a CNU pairing was listed in the final poll in back-to-back seasons. Macy and Strause competed in 27 matches together in 2021-22, winning 15 including 12 in duals at the No. 1 position. Despite having only played as a pair in the last two seasons, Macy and Strause combined for the sixth most wins at No. 1 doubles in CNU men's tennis history. This year's 12 wins ranks in the top-ten in single season history at CNU. 

In singles action, Strause started the year as the Captains' No. 1 and was ranked in the Atlantic South's top-20. By the season's end, he had been named a Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week courtesy of wins against nationlly-ranked Haverford in late April. A first team All-Conference pick in singles, Strause finished the year with a team-high 16 victories. He was 10-5 at No. 2 in duals and logged a successful tournament streak in the fall, picking up five total wins. 

Behind the efforts of the two honored upperclassmen, the Captains finished the 2021-22 campaign ranked No. 37 in the nation. CNU faced 11 matches against teams in the final national poll and four more against teams listed in the regional rankings. The Captains were 10-9 overall and reached the C2C Championship for the sixth time in program history.
