CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- For the third time in her career, Christopher Newport University women's golfer Shreya Ganta was named a WGCA All-American Scholar, recognizing the Captain for her terrific performances in the classroom and on the course. The prestigious academic honor was announced on July 5, 2022 and included Ganta for the third time in her four year career.

The criteria for the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Scholar All-Americans are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and in 2021-22, the organizaiton announced a total of 1,485 women's collegiate golfers selected for the recognition. 

This season, Ganta punctuated a stellar career on and off the course with her second consecutive selection as CoSIDA Academic All-District as well. She majored in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology and boasted the third-highest cumulative GPA among seniors on the eleven Academic All-District selections in District 5. A four-time Academic All-Conference selection, Ganta graduated with a final GPA of 3.90. 

On the course, she established herself as one of the top golfers in the young program's history as she became the first player to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships more than once in her career. An honorable mention All-American in 2021, Ganta finished her final season with a team-best 76.5 scoring average. She had one top-five and two top-ten finishes this season, including an impressive 147 (+3) at the Savannah Invitational to finish tied for fourth out of 81 players. 

She shaved nearly a full stroke off her career scoring average during her final campaign and finished ranking second all-time at CNU with a 78.9 stroke average. Her 76.5 this year also ranks second all-time at CNU behind only Erica Whitehouse's record 76.3 in 2018-19.
