Christopher Newport Cross Country to Host NCAA South Regional Preview on Friday Evening at Lee Hall Mansion

Live Results

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport cross country teams will welcome some of the top competitors in the region to Lee Hall Mansion on Friday evening when the Captains host the NCAA South Regional Preview beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The women's 6k will kick off the competition before the men hit the course for the 8k at 6:20 p.m. For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results will be available at CNUsports.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Currently, representatives from 23 schools are scheduled to take part in the competition, which will be held on the same course that will serve as the home of the NCAA South Regionals in November. Fittingly, a number of the top-ranked squads in the region will face off during the meet.

On the men's side, the third-ranked Captains will be joined by No. 1 Lynchburg, No. 4 Washington & Lee, and No. 6 Catholic. Meanwhile, the women's race will feature six regionally-ranked squads. Along with the fourth-ranked Captains, No. 2 Lynchburg, No. 3 Washington & Lee, No. 6 Catholic, No. 8 Meredith, and No. 10 Southern Virginia are all slated to appear on Friday.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a solid showing at the Spider Alumni Open on September 3. During that competition, Mae Savoie established a new school record in the 4k after clocking in at 15:06.1. Meanwhile, Eliza Dana was second among Division III competitors at the meet with a time of 15:34.0, while Megan Smith added a 15:42.6 mark in her collegiate debut.

The men were equally historic in their first action of the year. At the Spider Alumni Open, John Vogel finished the 6k in 19:14.3, which marked the third-fastest time by a Captain since 2007. Daniel Ferrante also finished in 19:22.0, which equaled the fourth-best mark during that same span. Meanwhile, Nick Tolarchyk was third on the men's team - and fifth among all Division III runners - with a 19:55.3 clocking.

Friday's meet will mark the first time Christopher Newport has raced at home since the Captains swept the team titles during the CNU Invitational on September 18, 2021. Madi Rawlings is the top returner on the women's team from that competition after she placed fifth overall with a 24:50.0 time in the 6k. On the men's side, Daniel Ferrante (26:36.6), Nathanael Ferrante (26:44.0), and Nick Tolarchyk (26:48.5) are all back after notching top-five efforts during the 8k at the CNU Invitational last year.

Following this week's action, Christopher Newport will continue its season at the prestigious Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 30.
