SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Christopher Newport University alum
Luke Hayes was named a 2021-22 selection to the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-Academic Team on Wednesday afternoon, continuing a run of five consecutive years the Captains have had at least one representative on the prestigious team.
Hayes was a double major in History and Leadership Studies and graduates in the Spring.
The ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes juniors and seniors who have participated as a competitor or alternate in four regattas and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A committee comprised of representatives from conferences in the ICSA evaluate the nonminated sailors. Dan Thompson, assistant head coach at Hobart and William Smith, is the committee chair.
Hayes joins an elite group of four former Captains who earned ICSA All-Academic Team selections since 2017. Kaitlyn Reilly was the first, in 2017, followed by Benjamin Kempton in 2018. Anna Patterson was picked in both 2019 and 2020 while Spencer Charney also garnered the recognition in 2019.
