NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference honored Sarah Smith as a repeat selection of the Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor and sophomore goalkeeper Jaya Daniel as the Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer on Monday afternoon. The Captains swept the weekly honors for the first time in 2022 with the second overall pick for both awards this year. 

Smith snagged her second straight selection as the league's top offensive player on Monday after scoring her third game-winning goal of the season. The Norfolk, Va. native notched a first-half goal against Stevens that would hold up as the winner in a 1-0 game against the talented Ducks foe. She scored off a nice feed from Molly Seventko, chipping the goalkeeper with a perfectly-placed shot into the right pocket of the goal in the 21st minute of play. 

With the goal, Smith moved into a tie for 10th all-time at Christopher Newport with her eighth career game-winning goal. She now has a team-high eight goals and 17 points, ranking second in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. For her career, she has 38 points in 32 games played with 17 goals and four assists. 

On the other end of the field, sophomore goalkeeper Jaya Daniel secured her first and second career shutouts by playing full time in both games against Randolph-Macon College and Stevens. Daniel made ten saves between the two games, including a career-high tying six stops against Stevens. 

This season, Daniel has registered a perfect 7-0-0 record in 540 minutes of action, allowing four goals and making 23 saves. She has a 0.67 goals-against average and an .852 save percentage while facing 50 total shots so far. 

She joins Jill McDonald as Captains to have earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition this season. 

Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday, September 28 as they travel to Roanoke College for a 4:30 p.m. matchup with the Maroons.
