RICHMOND, Va. -- Following the 2025-26 season, a pair of Christopher Newport women's tennis players were selected to receive All-State recognition from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Junior Kylie Schaefer hauled in second team All-State honors in singles while she also earned first team All-State doubles plaudits with playing partner Kendal Chang. 

Schaefer collects All-State honors in singles for her third consecutive year after earning second team recognition as a freshman and first team honors following her senior campaign. She also is a repeat All-State pick in doubles after earning first team plaudits a year ago with Raine Weis. Chang is also earning her second All-State certificate in doubles after collecting second team honors a year ago with Samantha Robertson. 

Chang and Schaefer qualified for the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Doubles Championships in 2026 and finished out the year ranked No. 14 in the national doubles rankings. The duo went 9-5 overall in 2025-26 including a 9-4 record in duals during the Spring. One of the biggest wins of the year came in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship against nationally-ranked Mary Washington when the CNU tandem toppled the 11th-ranked pairing in the nation, 6-2. 

Schaefer ranked second on the team in singles wins with 13 while splitting time on the top two lines with Chang. She went 5-5 at No. 1 singles and 6-3 in matches at No. 2. 

Powered by the All-State duo, the Captains closed out the year with a 9-11 overall record and captured the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
