In its sixth year of existence, the Inter-Regional Border Battle features top-flight programs from around the nation. This year's edition of the meet will feature seven nationally-ranked programs in both the men's and women's races. The women's 6k will be headlined by No. 1 Johns Hopkins, No. 7 Dickinson, and No. 10 SUNY Geneseo. Meanwhile, the men will face an equally challenging field, including No. 5 SUNY Geneseo and No. 13 Johns Hopkins.

Overall, 33 Captains are currently slated to take part in the competition, including 10 in each of the championship races.

Entering the weekend, the men's team is currently ranked 35th in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. The squad also sits third in the South Region. On the women's side, the Captains continue to slot fourth in the regional rankings.

Christopher Newport is coming off of an impressive showcase during the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on October 1. The men placed eighth in a field of 41 teams while defeating a pair of nationally-ranked Division III programs. Meanwhile, the women finished 29th overall and topped six Division I squads.

On an individual level, several Captains added their names to the history books during the Paul Short Run. Logan Funk completed the 6k in 22:10.3, which marked the second-fastest clocking in school history. Meanwhile, Maggie Ralston and Madi Rawlings moved into the top-35 all-time as well. Ralston finished in 23:35.5, while Rawlings threw down a 23:47.9 mark.

On the men's side, Clark Edwards posted the 18th-fastest 8k mark in program history after crossing the line in 25:33.2. Both Nathanael Ferrante and Daniel Ferrante eclipsed the 26-minute mark as well. Nathanael finished in 25:39.9, while Daniel completed the race in 25:43.3.

For their efforts during the meet, Funk and Edwards were celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week on October 4.

Saturday's meet serves as the final tune-up before the league championships, which will take place in Sunnyvale, California on October 30.
