Â
Christopher Newport is one of eight schools scheduled to take part in the meet, including fellow Coast-to-Coast Conference member Mary Washington and local rival Virginia Wesleyan. Presently, 53 Captains are currently entered in at least one event.
Â
Among the standouts with a busy schedule on Saturday,
Ethan Anderson and
Will Flannery are scheduled to compete in four events on the men's side, while
Hannah Gentrup,
Grace Damewood, and
Sydney Trussell currently have three events on their docket. Overall, 42 competitors are entered in multiple disciplines for Christopher Newport.
Â
The Captains were last in action on December 5 when they hosted the CNU Holiday Open. During that competition,
Daniel Fox swept the men's 100 and 200, while
Peyton Blanding and
Jack Armel captured the pole vault titles. Fox was eventually celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance, while
Mazie Clark was named the Field Athlete of the Week on the women's side after establishing a PR with a 12.86-meter heave in the weight throw.
Â
Following Saturday's meet, Christopher Newport will continue the indoor season on January 22 when the Captains kick off the two-day Keydet Invitational at VMI in Lexington, Virginia.
