TEMPE, Ariz. -- Christopher Newport doubles team Tessa Trate and Raine Weis were ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic South Doubles Rankings as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday afternoon. The Captains' duo continues it's reign as one of the top tandems in the area after finishing the 2021-22 season ranked No. 13 in the nation. 

This fall, the Captains' pair enjoyed an incredibly successful run through the first two events of the 2022-23 season. They will carry a 6-1 record into the spring season with two wins over Division I competition and a third against a D-II opponent from Chowan. Trate and Weis also paired to reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships with two wins in that event. 

The fall season started with Trate and Weis pairing for an 8-6 win over Mio Kozaki and Diana Starodubtseva from Hampton University before earning back-to-back 8-4 wins against out-of-division opponents. The first came against Chowan's Feidi Abreu Rodriguez and Valentina Domenicone and the second against Longwood's Emma Nurgazieva and Karina Rizvanova. The CNU pair also cruised to an 8-2 win against Sweet Briar's top tandem in Ruth De Souza and Allison Wandling, 8-2. 

In the ITA Southeast Regional, Trate and Weis were the top-seed in the championship draw and made quick work of their first two opponents from Carnegie Mellon and Sweet Briar. In the quarterfinals, their six-match winning streak was halted against Margaret Carlton and Lauren Long from Washington and Lee. 

The ranked doubles pairing and the rest of the Captains will open the spring season against Johns Hopkins University on February 11 at 12:30 p.m.
