WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --
The Christopher Newport track & field teams will take part in a pair of meets this weekend as the Captains head to the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Saturday before taking part in the Richard Drake Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Sunday.

Live results will be available for both competitions, and direct links can be found at the top of this release.

Christopher Newport will be sending a collection of distance runners to the Camel City Invitational, while CJ Reeders will also take part in the triple jump. Reeders will begin the competition at 10 a.m., and Cooper Albright, Brenton Duvall, and Clark Edwards will kick off the track disciplines with the 800 at 11 a.m.

Overall, 14 Captains are currently slated to take part in at least one event during the Camel City Invitational on Saturday.

On Sunday, Christopher Newport will compete in the inaugural Richard Drake Invitational, which will be hosted by Virginia Wesleyan at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Admission for the event is $10, while a webcast will be available for those unable to attend the competition.

Christopher Newport will be well-represented at the meet as over 60 student-athletes are entered in at least one event. Of those Captains heading to Virginia Beach, Gage Elliott and Gustavo Leitao are currently scheduled to take part in four events apiece on the men's side, while Grace Damewood, Adrianna DeSantis, and Ainsley Miller are equally busy for the women's squad.

Entering the weekend, the Captains are ranked in the top-50 nationally in six disciplines. Leading the way, Jack Armel is 44th in the country in the heptathlon and 49th in the pole vault. Additionally, Reeders is 23rd in the triple jump, and Daniel Fox is 34th in the 60. Christopher Newport also boasts two of the country's top Distance Medley Relay crews as the women rank 10th in the NCAA, while the men are 17th.

After Sunday, the Captains will return to action on February 11 for the start of the VMI Indoor Classic in Lexington, Virginia.
