Christopher Newport will be well-represented at the meet with 58 Captains currently scheduled to take part in at least one event. They will test themselves against a talented collection of opponents with representatives from nine other schools entered in the competition.
Coming into the weekend, three Captains rank in the top-20 nationally in their respective events. On the men's side,
John Vogel is 12th in the NCAA in the 3000-steeplechase (9:19.70), while
CJ Reeders is 19th in the triple jump (13.67 meters). Meanwhile,
Kaitlyn Ardrey is 13th in the women's 10,000 after setting a new school record with a time of 36:40.52 during the Colonial Relays last Friday.
In addition to the top-ranked competitors on the national level, Christopher Newport also boasts a slew of regionally-ranked standouts. Among the South Region stars,
Logan Funk and
Logan Warden both slot among the area's top-five in the women's 5,000, while
Eric Speeney is third in the men's 10,000.
Additionally, in field events,
Jack Armel is third in the pole vault, while
Joe Kilama is fourth in both the discus and hammer.
Overall, at least one Captain ranks in the South Region's top-10 in 17 events. Showcasing the program's depth, four members of the squad stand among the regional leaders in the women's 10,000. Along with Ardrey's top clocking,
Madi Rawlings,
Maggie Ralston, and
Lex McGrail all slot among the elite performers in the South.
Following this week's meet, Christopher Newport will return to action on April 16 for the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in Lynchburg.
