NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field teams will kick off the 2019-20 indoor campaign with the Holiday Open on Sunday at the Freeman Center.
Action gets underway with the men's weight throw at 9 a.m. Track events, beginning with the Distance Medley Relay, kick off at 10:30 a.m. Overall, 19 different disciplines will be contested on both the men's and women's sides during the all-day competition.
Along with Christopher Newport, nearly a dozen other colleges will have representatives taking part in the meet.
For those fans unable to attend the Holiday Open, live results and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.
The Captains will open up the new year following a 2018-19 campaign that saw both the men and women place second at the CAC Indoor Championships. Currently, seven returning All-League performers are slated to make their season debut during the Holiday Open on Sunday.
Headlining the veteran contingent,
Lauryn Helstrom is the reigning league champion in the indoor high jump, while
Monica Lannen was the runner-up in the mile last year. Meanwhile,
Kaitlyn Ardrey,
Shannon Woods, and
Logan Funk were all celebrated in 2018-19 for their work on the Distance Medley Relay.
On the men's side,
Ryan Henderson and
Brenton Duvall are returning indoor All-Conference performers who are scheduled to make an appearance on Sunday. Both standouts picked up plaudits for their work on last year's DMR and will take part in the 800 this weekend.
Following Sunday's action, Christopher Newport will have a quiet winter break before returning for the VMI Keydet Invitational beginning on January 17 in Lexington.
