NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A trio of Christopher Newport veterans have been named the team captains for the Christopher Newport men's tennis program in 2022-23. Alec Strause, Edvard Porsmyr Hansen, and Matthew Dubuque have been selected to serve in the leadership roll after a pair of senior Captains graduated last season.

"I'm excited to have Alec, Eddy, and Matt leading the team this coming season, " said Director of Tennis Eric Christiansen. Between the three of them, they have a ton of experience and are a group who know what it takes to win at the national level. They are true team guys who understand the important of camaraderie and culture. I'm confident that their leadership will continue to move Christopher Newport tennis forward in the 2023 season."

Both Strause and Portsmyr Hansen earned All-League honors last season while the latter was joined by Dubuque as an ITA Scholar-Athlete. Strause earned VaSID All-State accolades in both singles and doubles during his third season with the Captains

Christopher Newport is scheduled to open the 2023 spring season on February 4 against Virginia Wesleyan University at 2:30 pm. It will be the first of 18 regular season duals currently scheduled for the Captains.
